Reviews Policy

At Sotto, customer reviews are a core part of how people make decisions about our flooring. We take the authenticity of those reviews seriously. This page explains how we collect, verify and moderate reviews, and how we handle anything we believe to be fraudulent, incentivised or spammy.

Who can leave a review

Reviews on sotto.co.uk can only be submitted by customers who have placed and received a genuine order with us. We send review requests automatically by email after an order has been paid for and fulfilled. We do not accept unsolicited reviews, reviews from third parties, or reviews from anyone who has not purchased the product they are reviewing.
Every published review is tied to the customer’s email address and order record and is marked as a verified buyer.

What we don’t allow

We will not publish any review that is, or appears to be:

  • Fake, fabricated or written by someone who has not used the product
  • Submitted by a competitor or someone with a commercial interest in damaging our reputation
  • Incentivised in any way, including reviews written in exchange for discounts, gifts or future credit
  • A duplicate or near-duplicate of another review, whether submitted under the same or a different name
  • Off-topic, or not about the product being reviewed
  • Abusive, discriminatory, defamatory, threatening or otherwise unlawful
  • Containing personal data belonging to another person
  • Containing external URLs, promotional content, contact details or affiliate links

How we detect fraudulent and spammy reviews

Incoming reviews are screened against a set of signals that commonly indicate fraud or spam, including:

  • Reviews not linked to a valid, fulfilled order
  • Duplicate or near-duplicate content submitted across different accounts
  • Reviews containing external URLs, email addresses, telephone numbers or promotional material
  • Reviews submitted from disposable or suspicious email domains
  • Reviews that do not describe the product purchased
  • Content flagged as abusive, off-topic or in breach of this policy

Any review that triggers one or more of these signals is held for manual review before it is considered for publication.

How we moderate reviews

Every review is reviewed by a member of the Sotto team before it appears on a product page. We do not edit the substance of reviews. Where a review is rejected, the customer is free to resubmit corrected content if the issue was a minor one (for example, a personal detail that needed removing).

We will reject and not publish any review that breaches this policy.

Reporting a review

If you believe a review on our site is fraudulent, incentivised, fake or otherwise in breach of this policy, please contact us at [email protected] with the product name and a link to or description of the review in question.

We investigate reports within five working days. If we determine that a review breaches this policy, we remove it immediately. We will confirm the outcome with whoever reported it.

Ongoing audit

We audit our published review database periodically to identify and remove:

  • Reviews linked to orders that were subsequently cancelled, charged back or identified as fraudulent
  • Reviews that we later determine to be in breach of this policy
  • Reviews from customers who have asked to have their data removed under their rights under UK GDPR

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in how we collect or moderate reviews, or changes in applicable law. Any material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date below.
